When I looked at this scripture, I thought –
“Everyone who has left…for my name’s sake…will inherit eternal life.”
Change. To leave all that you have of your material and spiritual life as you know it, to listen to the Holy Spirit, and then do what God has asked you to do is acting with tremendous faith.
How often have we been asked to step forward to help a brother, sister, friend, or stranger do a job that seems unattractive or uninteresting that we want to shy away from? Or, the job seems too big to tackle or change too great. We weigh the consequences of what we will give up rather than seeking what God is allowing to happen to transform our lives.
The things that we hold back from doing are often the most liberating to us mentally when we step out in faith as our relationship with Jesus Christ deepens. The doing for His name’s sake sets us free. To give and let go, we follow the path and journey to inherit eternal life through our Savior.
Anne,
Thanks for reminding us how our relationship with Christ can deepen when we step out in faith to help others.
Thanks for this message, which is even more pertinent during Lent.
It’s so easy to think that we give anything up for Christ, no one I know has had to leave their family or give up all of their money. It’s easy to give up social media or coffee or alcohol during Lent, but what difference does that actually make?
I believe the devotional and your reflection are timely reminders that we actually need to do more for and give more to others, instead of just giving up things for ourselves.
